Vehicle Overview

In one of the most highly competitive segments in the automotive world, the Kia Sportage continues to shake things up. A big part of Kia’s success is never being satisfied. Few small crossover sport utility vehicles get the annual refinements that the Sportage does. The 2020 Kia Sportage, which is now available at Coughlin Kia of Lancaster, introduces a new front and rear end aesthetic, makes the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple and Android integration standard and adds smart cruise control and other new driver assistance technologies. Another new small crossover that has recently arrive at dealerships in Lancaster Columbus Groveport Ohio is the 2020 Nissan Rogue. Let’s see how these two compelling crossovers measure up in our 2020 Kia Sportage vs 2020 Nissan Rogue comparison.

Columbus OH - 2020 Kia Sportage's Overview

Exterior - 2020 Kia Sportage

As mentioned in the opener, the Kia Sportage got an exterior refresh that includes new front and rear fascias. The Sportage is probably at the halfway point of this gen, and so this upgrade helps it to stay looking sleek and modern. The 2020 Nissan Rogue has not received any enhancement but remains a sharp-looking vehicle nonetheless. The Sportage is a bit smaller than the Rogue. Kia built it on a 105.1-inch wheelbase and to 176.4 inches in length. Nissan built the Rogue on a 106.5-inch wheelbase and to 184.5 inches in length. The Rogue is also a bit taller. The Sportage is wider and closer to the ground.

Interior - 2020 Kia Sportage near Columbus

Both the Sportage and Rogue are two-row crossovers that seat five. The Rogue, however, is a bit bigger by design. Despite this, the Sportage offers rear passengers more headroom and legroom. This requires a sacrifice somewhere, and the Rogue does offer more cargo volume: 39.3 cubic feet in the primary area and 70.0 with the second row folded. But the Sportage still manages to give you 30.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 60.1 with the second row down. Both vehicles provide access to this cargo area via a tailgate, and a hands-free liftgate is an option in both cases.

Mechanical - Kia Sportage specs near Columbus

Both the 2020 Kia Sportage and 2020 Nissan Rogue are front-wheel-drive crossovers standard but available with all-wheel drive across all trim levels. Kia offers two powertrains, both of which feature a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a 2.4L i-4 rated for 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The SX Turbo is the range-topping Sportage, and it features a turbocharged 2.0L i-4 rated for 240 hp and 260 lb.-ft. Note that all-wheel-drive version produces slightly less horsepower. Nissan offers a single powertrain: a 2.5L i-4 mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. The engine is rated for 170 hp and 175 lb.-ft.

Technology - 2020 Kia Forte dealer

Kia is a big reason why so many technologies are included standard in most small crossovers, and you should expect nothing less for the 2020 model. You get the Kia Uvo infotainment system, which now comes standard with an 8-inch color HD touchscreen. You also get Bluetooth support, Apple and Android integration, a USB port, a six-speaker sound system and an advanced driver information display. Standard driver assistance technologies include a rearview camera, automatic high beams, selectable driving modes, forward collision mitigation, driver attention monitoring and more. With the Rogue, you get NissanConnect, which is an older but functional infotainment implementation, with a 7-inch touchscreen and Apple and Android support. The driver aids group is not as robust as on the Sportage, but it does include forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring and so forth.

Standard Equipment - 2020 Kia Forte

The Sportage available at Coughlin Kia of Lancaster includes what is arguably the most feature-rich base package in the segment. Items like 8-inch touchscreens and forward collision mitigation systems are standard elsewhere, but no other automaker includes all of these items quite like Kia. It’s a testament to Nissan then that the Rogue standard group compares as favorably as it does, but still, we think that the average consumer will find more value in the Kia offering.
