2023 Kia Seltos vs. 2023 Honda HR-V

2023 Kia Seltos vs. 2023 Honda HR-V

Overview

Two fantastic choices for the continuously expanding subcompact crossover market are the Honda HR-V and the Kia Seltos. Let's see how they stack up against each other.

Exterior and Dimensions

Kia offers five different Seltos trim levels: LX, S, EX, Nightfall, and SX Turbo. The sleek body lines and distinct light signature give it a modern, high-tech look. The 2023 Honda HR-V, on the other hand, is available in three trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L. In addition to more trim levels, the Seltos has 7.3 inches of ground clearance, which is slightly more than the Honda HR-V's 7 inches.

Engine And Performance

If you want the most power possible, the Seltos brings a more impressive turbo engine. The 2.0-liter starting four-cylinder offers 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, but the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder brings 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This latter engine appears standard on the SX Turbo and Nightfall editions, which use a seven-speed automatic transmission instead of a continuously variable one.

For 2023, Honda did upgrade the sole engine on the HR-V. The 1.8-liter changes to a 2.0-liter inline-four that produces 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque.

Interior

The Seltos and HR-V are both five-seat SUVs. However, with the seats up, the Honda HR-V has 24.4 cubic feet of cargo room and a total passenger volume of 99.6 cubic feet. The new Kia Seltos has 26.6 cubic feet behind the seats, plus a total passenger volume of 98.7 cubic feet.

With more trim levels to choose from, stronger engine choices, and more interior cargo space, the Kia Seltos outperforms the Honda HR-V. Check it out if you need a compact crossover.
