2023 Kia Sportage Overview
The 2023 Kia Sportage has not arrived just yet. It will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022, but there is already great excitement surrounding it because it will introduce the fifth-generation platform. With that new platform, the Sportage gets a bit bigger and more spacious, and it also comes outfitted with more technologies and amenities than ever before. Kia has also expanded the trim selection. In fact, there will be seven distinct trim levels available at Coughlin Kia of Lancaster. The core options will seem familiar: LX, EX, SX and SX-Prestige. Kia is introducing an X-Line model, which builds on the base LX package with a more rugged appearance. There is also the X-Pro, which is an off-road version of the SX, and that trim level will be available in a Prestige version similar to the package available for the SX.

The 2023 Kia Sportage boasts a brand new aesthetic that is sleeker and more modern than the one that came before it. As mentioned, the new Sportage is bigger, but the size difference is not necessarily something that jumps out at you unless you park the new model next to the previous one. To allow for the added interior spaciousness, Kia has increased the wheelbase from 105.1 to 108.5 inches. It also increased the overall length from 176.4 inches—14.7 feet—to 183.5 inches—about 15.3 feet. Alloy wheels will again be standard, and Kia will offer wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches.

One of the more exciting aspects of this 2023 Kia Sportage review is that the new Sportage will be bigger. Front legroom remains the same, but it was already roomy at 41.5 inches. The rear legroom, however, is being expanded from 38.2 inches to 41.3 inches. That is best in class as of this writing and means that you can even have larger adults in the back seat and have them be comfortable on longer drives. The previous Sportage was already impressive when it came to dedicated cargo space offering more than 30 cubic feet, but that is also being expanded to a whopping 39.6 cubic feet!

Our Kia location serving Lancaster Columbus Groveport Chillicothe and the surrounding region will offer the new Sportage with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive. With the LX and X-Line models, front-wheel drive will be standard equipment, and all-wheel drive will be optional. Beyond that point in the lineup, all models will feature all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

This section is perhaps the most requested aspect of our 2023 Kia Sportage review. We have received many questions concerning whether there will be a Turbo option available. The answer to that question is not available as of this writing. Kia has only released information on two powertrains. The standard powertrain will have a 187-horsepower four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. That is 6 hp more than the previous model and with better fuel performance. Kia has also introduced a 226-hp hybrid powertrain. Trailering equipment will be available, and with that equipment plus trailer brakes, both of these powertrains will be able to tow up to 2,000 pounds.

The biggest news for the new Sportage is that a 12.3-inch touchscreen will be available. We do not yet know which trims will offer it as an option and which will include it standard. The base model will have an 8.0-inch color HD touchscreen similar to the one found in the 2022 model. Most driver-assistance technologies will be standard. There will be a handful of options, including adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor and a remote automated parking system.
