Head down the road in a Kia Sportage, Sorento, or Telluride to enjoy exciting winter activities in and around Lancaster, OH. Go on invigorating winter hikes, ice skate and ice fish on scenic lakes, and experience a Scottish-themed weekend getaway.

1. Enjoy Spectacular Winter Views

The views from the 250-foot Mount Pleasant, Lancaster’s famous landmark, are always magnificent, especially at sunset. In winter, when everything is covered in a blanket of snow, the town below and the surrounding hills in the distance turn into a magical winter wonderland from the overlook.

To reach the overlook, walk up the short but steep marked trail that starts at the Rising Park pond for about a quarter mile through the woods. It’s a strenuous walk, but you’ll be rewarded with the best view in the region.

Address and Hours

The trail up Mount Pleasant starts in Rising Park at 203 East Fair Avenue in Lancaster. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset.

2. Go Ice Skating on Lake Logan

It’s time to sharpen your skates and go skating when the 400-acre Lake Logan in Lake Logan State Park freezes over. Ensure the ice is thick enough, clear an area to play pond hockey or glide over the ice and admire the view of the beautiful snow-covered woodlands surrounding the lake.

Address and Hours

Lake Logan State Park is at 30443 Lake Logan Road in Logan, 15.7 miles from Lancaster, and is open every day, all year long.

3. Drop Your Hook in Buckeye Lake

When the weather turns icy, head to the 3,100-acre Buckeye Lake, the best ice-fishing destination in central Ohio and one of the first in the state to freeze over to drop your line to hook saugeye, walleye, bluegill, and crappie.

It’s a big lake with plenty of great spots for anglers without getting crowded. There are many fishing shops with gear and bait, and when it gets too cold on the ice, head to one of the cozy restaurants to warm up.

Address and Hours

Buckeye Lake State Park is at 2905 Leibs Island Road NE in Millersport, 15.9 miles from Lancaster. The park offers easy access to the lake and is open 24 hours daily.

4. Experience a Scottish Highland Winter

Go on a romantic weekend getaway and experience a Scottish Highland winter right on your doorstep at the prestigious Glenlaurel, the only luxurious Scottish Estate and Inn in the country.

Stay over in one of the charming authentic Scottish-themed rooms, relax in a jetted hot tub, get cozy in front of a blazing fireplace, and enjoy world-class cuisine.
